GHK has been producing high-quality Gas Blow Back airsoft rifles for nearly a decade. One of their most well-known products is their AK lineup. The GHK gas blowback mechanism provides a level of realism that sets it apart from your normal AEGs (Automatic Electric Guns). There’s a reason these rifles are so popular.
The rifle, straight out of the box, has an exceptional build quality with a construction that mimics the weight and feel of a real Romanian AK. The externals are produced by LCT, who makes some of the best AEG AK airsoft replicas.
If you want to add new furniture to your rifle, the GHK does best with LCT brand Zenitco replicas. These require very little, if any, modification to fit because LCT produces the externals of the rifle. Other brands may work but will probably require some filing or other modifications.
The rifle has incredibly tight tolerances, which can be a double-edged sword. Removing the dust cover can be a bit challenging, and trying to put it back on is even worse. I’ve had to use a flathead screwdriver to get it back onto the rifle, but once it’s on there, you’ll have no worries of it coming off.
The synthetic furniture on the GHK AK series adds to the authentic feel of the rifle. Models with wooden furniture are made from real wood, with a finish that isn’t too shiny. The added weight makes this feel more like a real rifle, but it does make the recoil less noticeable. If you want an airsoft rifle that mimics the operation and feel of a real AK, this is for you.
Moving on to the shooting experience, I like to use Elite Force 0.32g BBs and Elite Force Green Gas. The rifle exhibits typical airsoft recoil in semi-auto mode; however, I’ve run into some issues in full-auto mode. If your mag is low on gas, you can run into a situation I can only describe as resembling a hang fire. I’ve noticed this issue happens more often with new mags and is less of an issue once they’re broken in.
Something I disagree with most GHK owners on is the hop-up’s performance. I’ve met a lot of people who say the hop-up needs to be replaced, but mine has been great. I hop 0.32g BBs easily and consistently, but anything lighter will be over hopped. I could easily hop heavier BBs, like 0.40gs, but I like 0.32 because it’s what all of my rifles use.
One issue with the GHK AK series is the metal used for some high-wear parts. The two parts that fail the most are the hammer and auto sear because they’re not made from steel. Several companies make higher-quality replacements, but it’s not an upgrade you need to make right away. My advice is to wait until you have a part fail, and then upgrade all the applicable parts to steel at once. W&S is a favorite brand for replacement parts that will enhance durability.
In summary, the GHK AK series stands out as one of the most realistic airsoft options on the market, offering a robust gas blowback mechanism, impressive build quality, and a range of models to cater to whatever AK you’d like to build.
