How to prevent airsoft goggle fog

How-To & Guides

Every airsoft player has experienced this before: you’re in the middle of a game and suddenly your vision becomes cloudy with fog. It’s so bad you that you can’t even see your hands, and it’s incredibly frustrating to deal with. Preventing fog will not only make airsoft more fun, but also make you more effective on the field. Let’s dive into how I keep my goggles fog free.

First, it’s important to understand why goggles fog in the first place. Fogging occurs when the air on the inside of your lens meets with cooler air outside, causing condensation. This sticks to your lens and reduces what you can see.

To avoid this, make it as easy as possible for air to flow into your goggles. Ditch anything that will trap heat in, like shemaghs, heavy balaclavas or helmets. I also like to use face masks that are made of mesh for better breathability.

Secondly, make sure you’re using high quality goggles. This is an area many players skimp out on, but spending a little more can make a world of difference. Higher quality goggles will have better anti-fog coatings, and many have features that help improve airflow, such as vents or fan systems.

I also recommend every player use anti-fog treatment as an extra precaution. Products like FogStop help to create a layer on the inside of your lens that fog cannot stick to. It can provide relief for up to 12 hours.

I like FogStop over other options because it comes in a small resealable container. There are other options, including wipes, but these can only be used once. FogStop can easily fit on your loadout and can be used dozens of times. Just put a small dab onto a microfiber cloth and rub it into the inside of your lens. This will create a solid layer and prevent fog from forming.

FogStop has worked for me on both ends of the temperature spectrum. In the humidity of the deep south, it’s worked to keep fogging at bay. In single digit temperatures, it kept fog from freezing onto my lens, which I saw happen to several other players.

No one wants to deal with fogging in airsoft. These tips will help to keep your vision clear and help you have more fun on the airsoft field!
